Guys! I’ve gotten the thumbs up to show you the cover for Alice Close Your Eyes. I really love it, and I hope you will, too.

Also, here it is on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Powell’s, with its New Year’s Eve pub date. (Which is handy, since there will already be champagne in the house.)

And here it is again on my new(ish) author site. (Obnoxious? Moi?)

  1. WOW!! It’s beautiful! I’m so proud of you. Can hardly wait to read it! Thrilled for you! Love ya, Mom XXXXXXXXOOOOOOOO

  2. Exciting News indeed! That book will jump off the shelf and catch attention. Of course, Avril (or whatever your real name is), now you are going to have to clean up that potty-mouth of yours, comb your hair, put on your nicest frock and be nice to people as you sign books at Powell’s.

I can’t wait to read it… make mine out to “To my pal, Ted”

  3. OMG, OMG, OMG…it’s…well…it’s…omg… don’t know how to say fucking awesome without saying FUCKING AWESOME.
This is it girl, this is really it. And you know what the best part is, New Years Fucking Eve, karma is on your side babe and waving you on.

    • I know! The New Year’s Eve bit makes me happy because we can celebrate without making it all about the book (which would pressurize the fun out of it). Everyone will be festive and I can pretend it’s all for meeee!

  4. That’s beautiful.
You deserve every bit of it. Part of me says, Order NOW. Part of me says, Maybe they’ll stock it in my local bookstore in Australia. Part of me says, Harry you stupid moron, just order it from your local bookstore, then they WILL stock it.
It’s good to have parts. Eventually, one works it all out so well I manage to eat, sleep, and be happy.
Your book, becoming more solid every day, makes me happy.

    • I hope it’s going to be sold in Australia. Maybe I should ask. MIRA has world English rights but I’m not sure exactly how it works, whether they distribute to every country they can or wait to see whether the book does well enough to sell outside the US. You may end up with a special delivery item in your mailbox, all the way from Lacey, WA. Or a telegram, see above.

  5. Nice cover. Love the title. Really looking forward to rhis. 🙂

I really love your blog, and the reason that I am mostly a lurker is because your questions draw me into having *too much* to say.
Best of luck with this launch!

    • Oh, the questions. Sometimes I feel like I’m going around the circle shaking everyone by the lapels and demanding advice. It’s like a reverse Dear Sugar. Someday I will call you out and go, “Karl, tell me what to doooo!”

  6. I’ve been a fan of your writing for awhile now, in that quasi-creepy way we have of following blogs and feeling that we “know” someone by their words. Maybe that explains why I feel so excited about your book and its publication, not to mention that incredible cover and author site. I will definitely buy a copy when it comes out!

    • I’m completely un-creeped-out by that. It gives me a little thrill to think that people are dropping by and checking out the blog, and secretly wishing me well. Thank you!

  7. Congratulations, Averil! Love the cover! It seems like all-typography covers are a big thing now, and it’s great that your publisher is taking that direction with your book. So exciting!

    • Definitely, typography is big right now. But I was (pleasantly) surprised when they first mentioned it as a concept, because most of MIRA’s covers are designed around a photograph.

They tell me the title will debossed and the glass embossed, and they’ll be using a mixture of gloss and matte so the covers will have a lot of cool texture. They’ve put a broken glass design at each chapter break. I can’t wait to see it in 3D!

  8. Averil!! It’s STELLAR! What a stand out cover! Walking into a bookstore and seeing this on the shelves would take me right to it. All other books would fade into the background. They’ve done an amazing job by you with it…congratulations! You must be soooo excited! Btw, I’d checked out your author site previously, I saw it “hiding” in your other links to the side of this site and you never said a word…about it, but I saw it. And I LOVED it! 🙂

  9. GAH!! Are you kidding me?! Seriously?!
Averil (I’m whispering now…) it is real. A real book that you wrote, rewrote, rewrote again, got an agent, rewrote some more and there it is. And it is so beautiful. And tangible. And you worked so hard for it and there it is. Love, love, love.

    • Oh! And I forgot to say in my excitement, that the coolest thing about that cover is that you can hear it. Have you noticed that?? When I look at it I can hear the plastic crunching. So, so cool, crunch, crunch, crunch.

    • Thank you! I hadn’t noticed about the sound of it, but I love that you did and I definitely can hear the crunch now that you’ve pointed it out. I’m so glad you like it.
